It is the study of what we see and hear!
How do we view the world and interpret the meanings of media texts within our community.
Analysing, interpreting and responding are important skills. This subject is key to understanding the world through a creative lens and should be an integrated part of every student learning in Secondary School, to be active digitally ready 21st Century citizens.

Media Texts - What are they?
Jo Flack, in the Nelson Media Textbook, explains that the traditional media forms included audio-visual media include film, TV, radio, DVD, CD’s and Print-based media photography, newspaper, magazines and advertising, posters. New media technologies have emerged to include gaming, projection, digital art forms, internet art, interactive-media art – hybridised texts forms. Text types include:
  • Film text types: feature films, documentaries, short films
  • TV text types: news, current affairs, soapies, drama, sitcoms, reality television
  • Newspaper text types: tabloid, online, bulletins 
  • Photography text types: Advertising purposes, news photography, illustration or art
