FOR STUDENTS


It is the study of what we see and hear!
How do we view the world and interpret the meanings of media texts within our community?
By analysing, interpreting and responding, these are important skills. Media arts is a subject that holds a key to understanding the world through a creative lens and should be an integrated part of every students learning. To understand how media texts are made, the intentions behind their production, the culture and climate they are made in, will make you ready for new technologies and be active digitally engaged citizens.

Media Texts - What are they?
In Nelson Media Textbook, Joe Flank explains that there are traditional media forms which include audio-visual media such as film, TV, radio, DVD, CD’s and Print-based media photography, newspaper, magazines and advertising, posters. There is New media technologies which have emerged to include gaming, projection, digital art forms, internet art, interactive-media art – hybridised texts forms. 

​Text types include:
  • Film text types: feature films, documentaries, short films
  • TV text types: news, current affairs, soapies, drama, sitcoms, reality television
  • Newspaper text types: tabloid, online, bulletins 
  • Photography text types: Advertising purposes, news photography, illustration or art
